THINGS TO DO
IN AND AROUND ALVOR

Beautiful beaches
There are plenty of beautiful beaches in and around Alvor.

Variating from long stretched beaches to smaller more secluded beaches with caves and rocks.
One of our favorites is 'Praia dos Três Irmâos', which is only a 10 minute walk from the hotel!

The closest beach, Praia de Alvor, is just 5 minutes away.
Boat trips
There are many boat trip operators in Alvor. From dolphin tours to classic sailing boat tours, and from stand up paddle to fishing trips.
We really love the tours of Trigana boat trips.
With their classic wooden sailing boats they organise a variety of tours like 'day-trips' to Lagos, trips around the caves of 'Ponte de Piedade' and 'sunset-tours'.
There are also tours to the famous 'Benagil cave' and a water-taxi to Lagos.

You can buy your tickets online or at the sales stands along the boulevard.

Hiking
The Algarve is full of beautiful marked hiking trails. Besides the beautiful trails along the coast there are some amazing trails in the mountains more inland.
Some of the most famous trails must be:
'Cominho Histórico' (historical trail), which is marked in white/red and is 263km in total
and the 'Trilho dos Pescadores' (fishermen's trail) which is marked in green/blue and is 226km long

All official hiking trails are well marked and maintained. This will make it very easy to follow the correct trail and enjoy the beautiful views without getting lost.

For the official trails: Rota Vincentina
For guided (bird watching) tours: Walk algarve
Towns nearby
Within a 30 minute drive there are many beautiful towns that are worth visiting.

Just a few of our favourites:

- Lagos, famous for the caves and beaches
- Ferragudo, authentic fishermen's village
- Carvoeiro, loved by many for the beautiful coast line
- Benagil, probably the most famous cave of the Algarve
- Silves, with the beautiful castle

Seafood
The algarve is known for its seafood.
However, Alvor is a little bit extra special.
The local fishermen still go out to catch fresh fish on a daily basis, and sell their 'catch of the day' directly to the restaurants. This gives you the opportunity to enjoy the best fresh and locally caught fish of the Algarve!

If you like seafood, don't forget to try the local speciality "Cataplana"

Most seafood restaurants can be found near the old fish market close to the boulevard, at only a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
Sunsets
Alvor has the most beautiful sunsets. Besides enjoying them from our rooftop terrace, we can recommend a sunset at the boulevard or the beach.

Other places that are worth a visit for an amazing sunsets are:
'Ponte de Piedade' in Lagos
and:
"Cape Saint Vincent'
also called 'The end of the (old) world' in Sagres
(note: it can be very windy)

Surf/kite-surf
Alvor is THE kitesurfing hotspot for the West-Algarve. The bay of Alvor is the perfect spot of open water.
You want to learn? Lucky you! There are a few kite-surf schools in Alvor.

The West-Algarve is also very popular with wave surfers. Although the West-coast is the best all year around, also the South beaches, and even Praia de Alvor, are usually good to surf during the winter. To learn how to surf there are many surf schools around. They provide gear, take you to the best locations and teach you how to get started with this very popular sport.
Skydiving
Alvor has its own airport and a very active Skydive Centre. It is the perfect location for an amazing experience with stunning views.

There are also possibilities to charter a plane for a scenic tour without jumping out of it. Imagine looking down at that beautiful coastline from high up in the sky!
